Must Watch
The movie is directed by most celebrated Hollywood actor cum director cum producer cum composer Clint Eastwood. In his 80s now but still has the passion and ability to direct and act in mutli-million dollars blockbusters. With a commercial and critical appraise this one is a true story of success of Mandela as President of a rainbow nation of South Africa. Moreover, the achievements of the then Rugby team captain’s journey to a World Cup glory in (and for) South Africa. Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon appears as Francois Peinaar (the captain of South Africa’s Rugby team known as The Springboks). The chemistry and leadership skills exhibited by both these actors within their respective characters make it a treat to watch.
Tom Hanks is the man who knows the art of making every character so absorbing. The Robert Zemeckis directed movie has been a huge commercial and critical success. It shows a man’s journey from a normal life to a trouble from where he eventually gets back. The effort to survive and man’s ability to find ways to move on through innovative ideas is shown at its best. No matter how bad the situation is, there is always a way out.
This is a low-budget movie starring Ranbir Kapoor and is directed by Shimit Amin (ChakDe! India fame). The movie apart from the lead actor and his grandfather (Prem Chopra) does not have a star-studded cast but it contains a very gripping story. An under achiever in academics but highly motivated Sikh boy who makes his way to make a PC assembling sales Company from a team of 5 people that eventually outsmart all the big players including the company he worked for. Not spoiling much of your twist but this one is a must watch if one has passion to do something just to tell the world how it should be done. Precisely, all entrepreneurs have this “My Way” attitude and that is what makes it big in the end.
Catch me if you can
Though not an entrepreneur, Walken’s character definitely stirred a little something in little Frank Abagnale Jr. Frank might have gone about achieving “success” the illegal way but he definitely gave out-of-the-box thinking, risk-taking and intuition new meanings.
Frank Abagnale, played by Christopher Walken, makes this fine speech:
Startup.com
Startup.com is a 2001 documentary that traces the conception and failure of a government streamlining startup, which is Govworks.com. Those who watch this film will have a deep perspective on the intricacies of starting a business that they might not have learned in college.
With clashing business partners, intense competition in the market and rounds of capital investment, this film offers everything that entrepreneurs need to know.
The Pursuit of Happyness
A true story of Chris Gardner (portrayed by Will Smith) highlighting his
journey from homelessness to a full time job in a brokerage firm and
end titles showing Chris Gardner with his own multi-million dollar firm.
The movie always makes one feel that if he can pull it off from such a
disastrous start why cannot anyone from us. Chris Gardner was just a
human being with a will to end the poverty-stricken life he was pushed
into, every coming day. The acting also earned Will Smith an Oscar
nomination.
The Social Network
The movie is almost accurate depiction of Mark Zuckerberg’s rise to fame
from a dorm room invention to the world’s largest social network, The
Facebook. With every 5th person using it and every 6th
being an active user it makes one curious how was it pulled off. The
movie has a bit of added drama to keep the commercial feel alive unlike
The Pirates of the Silicon Valley. However, even then Zuckerberg,
Eduardo Saverin and Winklevoss brothers are very well portrayed. With 8
Oscar nominations and 3 wins it turned out to be one fine movie of 2010.
The best of it was the cover of the movie which said, “You don’t get to
five million friends without making a few enemies”. Well for now there
are no enemies and thrice as many friends and an addition of many
shareholders as well.
The Shawshank Redemption
A movie made on a novel of Stephen King
with Tim Robbins in the lead role and Morgan Freeman in supporting role
as well as a narrator makes it one of the finest movies to have ever
produced. It is voted as the best all time movie in the IMDB’s list of
top 250. The story is about a banker who finally realizes that he has
had his share of the punishment for killing his wife. He makes his
education count at the prison during those 19 years and then leaves
everyone amused at the end. Do watch it to seek motivation of what man’s
endless thinking can bring about. And for that one needs just a little
motivation.
The Terminal
The movie motivates one to be
hardworking and helping individual. Yet again like a few previous ones,
it is based on a true story of an Iranian immigrant but has been
slightly modified by director Steven Speilsberg. It shows a man (Tom
Hanks) that has a passport that belongs to a country which no longer
exists as an independent state. The journey of his next few months in
the airport dealing with authorities, making few friends and even
earning money is worth a watch.
Pirates of the Silicon Valley
The movie was released as a Made-for-Television on TNT in 1999. The movie is based on a book named Fire in the Valley: The Making of The Personal Computer.
The most interesting thing is the main plot which covers the span of
1971 to 1997 showcasing the rivalry of Steve Jobs (Apple & NeXT) and
Bill Gates (Microsoft). Many who will watch the movie for the first
time and have been unknown to the history of computers might not know
what Apple was even way back in 1980, when Microsoft wasn’t even
registered on papers. The story is one fine rivalry and truly depicts
the portrayal of two people with different mindsets. The two great
companies are solely reflecting the ideologies these great minds had.
Not a star-studded cast but a fine movie to seek inspiration and a joy
to watch as it is a comedy for the most part.
Guru
This turns out to be the one fine movie
directed by South Indian director Mani Ratnam. The movie is rumored to
have been a story of the Indian business magnate Dhirubhai Ambani and
his Reliance Group venture. If it is true then the movie is an
inspiration to so many across the sub-continent in particular and the
world in general. The story shows the journey of a school teacher’s son
from a blue collar job in Turkey to an owner of India’s largest public
limited chemicals business. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan alongside
Aishwarya Rai. The story has the goods and the bads of the society and
of a businessman to rise through the ranks. One can always take the good
ones and avoid the bad ones.
Invictus
The movie is directed by most celebrated Hollywood actor cum director cum producer cum composer Clint Eastwood. In his 80s now but still has the passion and ability to direct and act in mutli-million dollars blockbusters. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year
This is a low-budget movie starring Ranbir Kapoor and is directed by Shimit Amin (ChakDe! India fame). Frank Abagnale, played by Christopher Walken, makes this fine speech:
“Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse wouldn’t quit. He struggles so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentleman, as of this moment, I am that second mouse.”Endurance is of course critical for any aspiring entrepreneur. Man up! Stand by what your startup wants to achieve and though you’re likely to take a few knocks, churning your way out of a problem and making something better out of a bad situation is what will make you stand out from the rest. You’ll go through tough times and forget about them during the good times.
